Restoration of a black paint amphora from the necropolis of Santa Venera
Scientific management: Archaeologist D. Rossetti – Restorer: F. Calceglia. Objectives: Restoration of the integrity following a traumatic event. Description: Photographic documentation of the condition of fragmentation, consolidation of the individual fragments with a formula based on acrylic polymers, gluing the fragments with two-component resin, material integration with plaster-based alabaster stucco, pictorial integration in neutral colour.

Bronze strigil from the necropolis of Santa Venera
Scientific management: Archaeologist D. Rossetti - Restorer: P. Stasi. Objectives: Restoration of the integrity following a traumatic event. Description: Photographic documentation of the fragmentary condition, documentary research to trace further fragments kept in the stores. Mechanical cleaning with micro-drill and abrasive pencil, anti-corrosive treatment with check of the surface pH, consolidation of the fragments by immersion in polymer resins. Gluing of the sheet fragments with two-component pigmented resin and reconstruction of the missing parts with two-component stucco paste made of polyester resin.

Stasi Objectives: Restoration of the integrity following a traumatic event for displaying at the museum Description: Photographic documentation of the fragmentary condition, removal of old and particularly invasive restoration interventions, washing with demineralised water in a vibrating tank, mechanical cleaning with micro-drill and abrasive pencil, anti-corrosive treatment with check of the surface pH, consolidation of the fragments by immersion in polymer resins. Gluing of the sheet fragments with two-component pigmented resin and reconstruction of the missing parts with two-component stucco paste made of polyester resin, construction of polycarbonate supports to assure safety even while stored.

Increasing accessibility at the Paestum Archaeological Park with “Restoration Showcase”! Every day, it is possible to watch and take part in the restoration of the architectural fragments of the fourth temple of Poseidonia, discovered last June. With paintbrushes, spatulas, scrapers and chemical solutions, the restorers of the park show how their invaluable work is done and, above all, the importance of restoration work in preserving such important archaeological materials. For the occasion, an ad hoc laboratory has been set up in the cella, to welcome visitors and chat with them on these essential issues.
