Paestum, October 26th-27th-28 th-29th

The 20th edition of the Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism will be held inside the ancient city of Paestum, UNESCO site since 1998, from October 26th to 29th, 2017. The area next to the Temple of Ceres (Exhibition Hall, Laboratories of Experimental Archaeology, ArchaeoMeetings, ArchaeoVirtual), the National Archaeological Museum (Conferences and Workshop with Foreign Buyers), the Basilica Paleocristiana (Conferences, ArchaeoWorking, Meetings with the Protagonists) will be again the wonderful locations for the Exchange.

The Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism confirms itself as an unique international event: home of the only exhibition hall in the world dedicated to archaeological heritage and to ArchaeoVirtual, the first international event dedicated to multimedia, interactive and virtual technologies; place for the study and debate on cultural heritage and tourism issues; meeting place for professional business, touristic and cultural operators and for travellers; business opportunity inside the inspiring location of the Archaeological Museum with the Workshop between foreign buyers and cultural and archaeological tourism offer.

A successful format, as testified by the collaboration of international organizations such as UNESCO, UNWTO and ICCROM, but also by 10.000 visitors, 100 exhibitors with 20 foreign Countries, 60 conferences and meetings, 300 speakers, 120 offer operators, 100 journalists.

To underline the importance of cultural heritage as a factor of intercultural dialogue, social integration and economic development, the event promotes every year cooperation among peoples through participation and exchange of experiences with an official guest country: in these years Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, France, Algeria, Greece, Libya, Peru, Portugal, Cambodia, Turkey, Armenia, Venezuela, Azerbaijan, India.

There are several special sections of the Exchange: ArchaeoMeetings for press conferences and presentations of cultural and territorial development projects; ArchaeoWorking, after-graduation and after-degree orientation with introduction of the educational offer by the Universities participating in the Exhibition Hall; ArchaeoStartUp, where new cultural enterprises and innovative projects in archaeological activities are introduced; International Archaeological Discovery Award “Khaled al-Asaad” for the most valuable discovery of the year, named after the archaeologist of the site of Palmyra who paid with his life the protection of cultural heritage; Meeting with the Protagonists where the audience meets famous TV hosts; the Laboratories of Experimental Archaeology to reproduce the techniques used in the past to create daily use artifacts; the “A. Fiammenghi” Award for the best thesis on archaeological tourism; the “Paestum Archaeology” Award assigned to those who contribute to the valorization of archaeological heritage; the programme of Guided Tours and educationals for journalists and visitors.

Institutions, Boards, Foreign Countries, Regions, Organizations, Professional and Cultural Associations, Tourism Companies and Consortia, Publishing Houses, will be inside the Exhibition Hall and will have a main role in the four extraordinary days of the 20th edition in Paestum on October 26th-27th-28 th-29th.
